Visual Resources

Visual images can be a powerful way to make your point in presentations and research papers. The databases we subscribe to allow use of the images for academic work only - please be aware of copyright and fair use.

For the databases the library provides, this means you may use images in papers and presentations (including posting on KATIE), but may not post the images to a public forum (including freely-available websites or publications).

Extensive biographical information about over 200,000 American artists as well as book and periodical references, along with International artists' auction records and images. Complete access to information about the artists’ biographies, auction records, financial graphics, magazine ads pre-1998, and images. Over 6,000 museums and dealers are also referenced.

Luther College Fine Arts Collection
Numbering over 1,500 works, the Collection contains art dating from ca. 500 BCE to the present but focuses on art produced in the 20th century.

Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Met has made over 400,000 digital images available for free download from their Collections website. Images must be used for scholarly purposes and comply with their Terms and Conditions. Images that are part of the download opportunity are designated with "OASC" (Open Access for Scholarly Content) below the image in a record view.
