Includes Chemical Abstracts, as well as CASREACT, CAS REGISTRY, CHEMCATS, and CHEMLIST databases. Covers organic and inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, applied and physical chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering, material science, agricultural science and more. Accessing via the web requires creation of an individual user account (see "SciFinder-n Registration" link).

Abstract and Indexing Databases

These databases will include abstracts, or summaries, of research articles from a large number of publications. The indexing tools of the database allow for more advanced search strategies.

Articles listed in these databases will include many from journals Luther does not subscribe to. It is still possible to access a copy of such articles via an Interlibrary Loan request!

AGRICOLA - National Agriculture Library SEARCH This link opens in a new window
The AGRICOLA database, produced by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, is now a part of the National Agriculture Library's SEARCH discovery service. SEARCH includes AGRICOLA (an index of scholarly journal articles and books in botany, agriculture, forestry, and animal science), PubAg (mainly full-text articles authored by the USDA), and the NAL Digital Collections. There are selective links to full-text for some articles; you will also want to search WorldCat to determine if an article is available electronically.

Indexes scholarly journal articles in biology and all other life sciences.

Google Scholar
Online search engine that indexes articles, theses, books, abstracts, conference proceedings and court opinions; from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Although this is a large index, once you have located a citation, you may have to access the complete article using library databases.

Indexes scholarly articles in biomedicine, health, dentistry, nursing, and other life sciences. Includes MEDLINE plus additional citations, some full-text. Coverage: 1966 – present.

An excellent starting point for research across a broad stretch of academic subjects with thousands of full-text journals and abstracted and indexed journals. This database is sourced with PDF images for the great majority of journals; many of these PDFs are native (searchable) or scanned-in-color.

A full-text collection of over 3,400 major scholarly journals and over 100,000 scholarly monographs. The digitized archive includes the first issue published for each journal (some are from 1665 to the present); but excludes the most recent 2 to 5 years for most journals.

New York Times, Historical plus Index (ProQuest) This link opens in a new window
ProQuest Historical Newspapers: the New York Times provides the full image of articles published in the New York Times from its first issue in 1851. It is searchable by keyword, author, article title, and first paragraph (abstract). You can browse issues by clicking Publications at the top of the screen. It includes illustrations and advertisements. The title changed from the New York Daily Times to the New York Times in 1857.
