CINAHL (and other medical databases) use a controlled vocabulary to apply subjects to articles. Tapping into this vocabulary will lead to more targeted search results. Click on CINAHL Subject Headings and enter a relevant term. For example, to look for "evidence-based practice," type evidence-based. CINAHL will suggest the subject heading Nursing practice, evidence-based. Checkmark this term and click on Search Database. All of the results will have this as the major heading. Another example is to use a CINAHL heading to limit results by relevancy. Switching a keyword search on midwifery to the CINAHL subject heading midwifery will exclude over 100K less relevant results.
