Wikimedia Commons
A database of 30M+ media files in the public domain. Anyone can contribute, but the Wikimedia policies and volunteer editors ensure consistently high-quality, reliable content.

A collection of art images spanning many times and cultures, and including architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, design and other visual media.

Google Art Project
A collection of high-resolution images of artwork housed in partner museums like the Tate, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Uffizi.
Library of Congress Digital Collections
Digitized sheet music, photographs, manuscripts, and more. Strengths include African-American history, American music history, Presidential history, and the Civil War.

Extensive biographical information about over 200,000 American artists as well as book and periodical references, along with International artists' auction records and images. Complete access to information about the artists’ biographies, auction records, financial graphics, magazine ads pre-1998, and images. Over 6,000 museums and dealers are also referenced.
