What is the difference between data and statistics?

Datasets are the raw numbers, usually compiled in an excel, SAS, or SPSS file. You need to analyze the data before you can draw meaningful information from it. Statistics are bits of analyzed or compiled data, often displayed in the form of a chart, a graph, a percentage, or an average.
